چکیده

Ideally, interference in neural measurements due to signals from nearby muscles can be completely eliminated with the use of tripolar nerve cuff electrodes, in combination with appropriate amplifier schemes. In practice the cuff departs from its ideal model leading to cuff imbalance. As a result, the output nerve signal of such amplifiers has been widely reported to be degraded by interference, making it difficult to use neural recordings as feedback to stimulators. This paper investigates relationship of cuff – interference-source proximity on cuff imbalance and its influence on the performance of well established amplifier configurations. The study was conducted using bioelectric field simulations.

Quantative Evaluation of the Efficiency of Facial Bio-potential Signals Based on Forehead Three-Channel Electrode Placement For Facial Gesture Recognition Applicable in a Human-Machine Interface

Introduction: Today, facial bio-potential signals are employed in many human-machine interface applications for enhancing and empowering the rehabilitation process. The main point to achieve that goal is to record appropriate bioelectric signals from the human face by placing and configuring electrodes over it in the right way. In this paper, heuristic geometrical position and configuration of ...

A Finite Element Study

The advantages of using nerve cuff electrodes (NCE‟s) over surface or intramuscular electrodes are that NCE‟s have lower threshold currents, power efficiency, due it hold the stimulating contacts close to the nerve trunk and less power is used between the electrode and nerve trunk. Existing techniques for surgically or pharmacologically blocking the nerve have shown serious side-effects that co...

Opportunities and Limitations of Non-invasive Bioelectric Imaging of the Heart

The spatial resolution of Bioelectric Imaging of the Heart was investigated. Based on the measurement of a multichannel Electrocardiogram (ECG) or Magnetocardiogram (MCG) images of epicardial potential distributions can be reconstructed. The imaging properties of this method have been investigated using Computer simulations. The spatial resolution depends strongly on the number and arrangement ...

Solution space reduction in the peripheral nerve source localization problem using forward field similarities.

Improving our ability to localize bioelectric sources within a peripheral nerve would help us to monitor the control signals flowing to and from any limb or organ. This technology would provide a useful neuroscience tool, and could perhaps be incorporated into a neuroprosthesis interface. We propose to use measurements from a multi-contact nerve cuff to solve an inverse problem of bioelectric s...

A Parylene Peripheral Nerve Cuff Electrode with Integrated Microfluidics

We present a novel micromachined polymer peripheral nerve interface that combines both electrodes and microfluidic channels in an adjustable cuff sized to interface with rat sciatic nerve. Parylene fluidic channels enable targeted delivery of lysing agents and neurotrophic factors to fascicle sites on the nerve surface, in order to induce axonal sprouting towards electrodes. This Lyse-andAttrac...
